Many of us have done it. You notice the registration on your car is about to expire when you glance at your license plate. You think, "I'll take care of it tomorrow." But registering your car isn't cheap.

Not only is there a charge for the renewal, but an even bigger charge from the town or city in the form of excise tax. It's no wonder we put it off and put it off again, sometimes even going over the expiration date before getting it registered. There is also the fear that police could stop you for an expired registration and a ticket would cost even more.

None of that seemed to bother one man in Holden who had an expired registration.

An officer with the Holden, Maine Police pulled over a man and when they approached his vehicle they checked the registration tags on his license plate. How does someone get away with an expired car registration for this long?

That's right. September of 2000. 24 YEARS overdue. What?!?

The post on the Holden Maine Police Department's Facebook page calls it the "new expired registration champion."

Their photo shows the license plate and it has since been removed from the vehicle, meaning he's not going anywhere anytime soon with that vehicle unless he pays up on 25 years of registration fees. There may be more charges. I'm not a law expert, but if you go 25 years without registering your car, you would think there would be more repercussions.
