It feels like 2024 has sadly been a year for a number of longstanding restaurants closing their doors for good.

In case you missed it, a Brunswick, Maine, restaurant announced its closure just a few months ago.

After about two decades of serving up enchiladas, tacos and other Mexican dishes, Hacienda Pancho Villa called it quits.

The restaurant shared the news on Facebook on Friday, August 30, saying, “Today we have made the decision to [close]! It was not easy but as a Family we are ready to start our new chapter in life.”

The post conveyed gratitude to customers, staff, and supporters, who have been integral to the restaurant’s journey, adding, “We would like to thank everyone that support our business for this past 20 years. Thank you to our employees for all your hard work we wish you all the best.”

For many in the Brunswick area, Pancho Villa was not just a place to grab a bite to eat, but a place to hang with friends and family with a welcoming atmosphere and colorful vibe, and there were many comments on the Facebook post expressing thanks and sadness.

Luckily, there are a few other locations to get some Mexican food in Brunswick, including Margaritas, El Rodeo over by Walmart, or even the popular downtown food truck Taco the Town.

Though it’s bittersweet to say goodbye, Pancho Villa’s legacy remains in the memories created there.

What will move in? Time will tell, but fingers crossed it offers something delicious.
