Maine Storm Snowfall Totals: Which Towns Saw the Most Snow from Latest Storm?

Well, the snow gods have certainly been blessing Mainers lately, as the state was walloped by another significant storm that started Saturday, February 15.

But what a beautiful sight it is in Maine right now—more fresh snow for all of us to enjoy.

Talk about a great way to slide into the rest of winter! Though, it would have been nice to skip the ice and rain that followed.

I guess the one good thing you can say about that is how ice truly makes a snowfield look stunning, especially when it glistens on a fine sunny day.

Maine Snowfall Totals

Let’s take a look at some of the snowfall totals from around Maine, courtesy of the National Weather Service. Which towns took the prize this time around?

Castle Hill - 9.5"

The small town outside of Presque Isle takes the crown for receiving the most snow from this recent storm.

In fact, Northern Maine truly took the brunt of this one, with many towns finishing with similar totals.

Here's a look at the rest of the Top 5.

Presque Isle - 7.8"
Caribou - 7.6"
South Berwick - 7.5"
Perham - 7.0"

It’s not shocking to see South Berwick lead the way for Southern Maine, considering how close it is to New Hampshire, which generally saw higher snowfall totals than Maine.

I’ll also note that Perham almost got more inches of snow than the total number of people who live in the town. Okay. that's a slight exaggeration, but it's close!

Here's a look at the highest snowfall totals from Southern and Midcoast Maine (not including South Berwick).

Old Orchard Beach - 6.7"
Portland - 6.6"
Kittery - 5.9"
Rockport - 5.0"

It’s interesting to see these coastal towns leading the way, considering that higher totals were expected more inland. However, it’s certainly not the first time this season that we’ve seen irregularities with predictions.

Following a very slow start to the snowy season, Maine's total snowfall numbers are starting to really add up, especially this month.

According to Current Results, a site that tracks weather events, Maine's average February snowfall is 17.05 inches. Most towns are already right there or have surpassed this total, and we still have a few weeks to go.

Is there More Snow in Maine's Future?

While snow can certainly drive people crazy, it’s also incredibly important for the state's economy. It's wonderful to see the ski mountains, cross-country ski centers, and snowmobile trails finally getting the snowfall that makes a positive impact.

Is more snow in the near future? Possibly.

According to the Weather Channel, the potential for more snow showers could be headed our way in the final week of February.

However, it’s still too far out to know how significant it could be, or if it will even happen. All we can do is hope that more of the white stuff comes tumbling down to continue this wonderful run we’re having.
