Sad news on the economic front from Bangor as L.L. Bean will be closing their call center in the Queen City. The call center is set to close in 2016.

L.L. Bean will try and keep their employees by bringing them to Portland, Lewiston or if they want let them work from home and those that leave will be given severance packages. The closure will affect about 220 employees.

The reason for the closure is that L.L. Bean leases the Bangor site and owns Portland and Lewiston location so it makes sense to them to concentrate on those two call centers. Additionally, many more people are ordering online and fewer are calling in orders says the company. The Bangor facility after opening in 2005 will have been active for just over 10 years when the last shift is over.

The L.L. Bean outlet in Bangor will not be affected by the call center closure.
