The video for Luis Fonsi’s "Despacito," the 2017 mega-hit featuring Justin Bieber and Daddy Yankee, is more than a just a chart juggernaut—it's also a bona fide history-maker and record-breaker.

"Despacito" is officially the first video to hit 5 billion views on YouTube, making it the most-watched YouTube video in the world. (The video with the second-most views is Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's "See You Again" with 3.5 billion views.) In the past six months alone, the video has earned one billion views—a testament to its unstoppable winning streak.

On Instagram, Fonsi celebrated the news of his record-breaking achievement with a video, sharing in the caption, "Thank you so much for your support. Que viva la música latina!"

Speaking to Billboard about the video, Fonsi previously shared, "The day we shot the video, and I don't know how many videos I've done, you could see the crew and the dancers and everybody enjoying the song. It was like no other video. People were dancing on the streets when nobody was filming. Normally you would get somebody saying, 'Can you please shut it off until we go back to filming again?' But here, people were asking to leave it on. That was the first sign, right there.”

In 2017, the track spent sixteen weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. On the Hot Latin Songs chart, the song is still sitting at No. 1, where it's been for 49 consecutive weeks.
