Normally, when we hear about accidents caused by distracted driving, it is because the driver was playing on his or her smartphone.  They were sending a text message, playing on Facebook, or recording a TikTok video.

Not this time...

A Greene man is lucky to have escaped serious injury when he wrecked his truck while counting his cash!

According to the Lewiston Sun Journal, at about 6:30 Wednesday morning, 32 year old Nicholas Landry was southbound on Middle Road in Sabattus in his 2007 Chevrolet 1500 pickup.  He had reportedly just left a restaurant where he had cashed his paycheck and was counting his money while he drove.

He was traveling about at 50 miles per hour when he veered off the road and clipped a mailbox.

Unable to regain control, he drove into the ditch, hit a culvert, and went airborne for about seventy feet before his truck "nosedived" into the ground.

Landry was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.  His only injury was a minor bump to the head.

Landy agreed to pay for the mailbox and cleaned up the driveaway of the residence where he crashed.

As a result, he will not be charged in connection with the accident.

We are glad to hear no one was injured in the accident and we have a feeling he has learned his lesson about distracted driving.
