All of us have known someone who has been affected, directly or indirectly, by the cruel disease known simply as "Alzheimer's." Fact is, although we laugh at peoples' senility at times, it's something that takes a horrible toll on many individuals and their families. My grandmother and uncle both had it.

I had a grandmother, an uncle and an aunt with the disease and, although not diagnosed, my mother may have been stricken. Very sad but very common, unfortunately. Thanks to good people like Dr. Laurel Coleman (pictured) and Gary Crocker, this year's honorary chair of the walk.
