Downeaster

Some upgrades are about to get underway, including something called Positive Train Control or PTC for short.

Serious upgrades are in the works along the tracks from Haverhill, Massachusetts, all the way up to Brunswick, Maine. Amtrak is dropping over $50 million to install Positive Train Control (PTC), a high-tech system that'll automatically keep trains in check and make trips faster and safer.

Amtrak is set to invest $7.3 billion in new modernized trains with new amenities, some of which will join the New England fleet

Amtrak is tackling COVID-19 and doing what they can to offer peace of mind to passengers.

Amtrak's Boston-to-Portland passenger train is expanding service with more frequent trips to Freeport and Brunswick, up the coast of Maine.

There was another mishap with the Downeaster today (04/14/15) but no injuries were reported.

I’ve given my kids a lot of good memories, I hope. One thing left I really want to do with them before they get too much older is take them on the Downeaster.

Success always seems to come with some problems, and in Brunswick, the noise from the idling train is a concern.  The good news is that ridership for the Amtrak Downeaster’s first month of passenger service to Freeport and Brunswick was higher than expected. 80% higher that expected!
