I laughed out loud when I read a headline on the KJ's website this morning: "Franklin, Somerset County Snowmobile Trails Not Ready Yet." Really? The photo accompanying the headline was of brown grass with a few patches of snow. Are there people out there who are that stupid that would think, "there's a little snow...why not use the trails?"
The picture above is Billy, head chef at the Black Frog Restaurant (Facebook) in Greenville. The food there is all wonderful and the menu is fun to read (see below). My favorite things there are the burgers and the "Misteak on the Lake," which is shaved steak on a sub roll with onions and peppers. Get it with hand cut fries and you'll be in heaven. Sure, we can find both right here but it just isn't the same as driving for two or three hours and spending a hundred bucks on gas.
In 2010, the chairlifts of Big Squaw Mountain on the southwestern side of Moosehead Lake stopped for the last time. The doors closed, the skiers left and the once boisterous wintertime retreat was desolate and silent, save for wildlife. That's going to change.
