Deadpool ruled the box office for the second weekend in a row, following up its record-breaking opening with with a strong sophomore weekend that proved its initial success was no fluke. What a wonderful turnout for the 2nd Annual Capital Y Triathlon at the Kennebec Valley YMCA. The morning (May 24) began with the first leg of the triathlon, swimming 425 yards. Next was a 10 mile bike ride and it wrapped up with the 3.1 mile (5k) run.

For the 6th straight year and 10th time overall, Trevor MacLean of Nova Scotia is the winner of the Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race.

Sunday (6/23) is the Fifth Annual Rail Trail Half Marathon. The course follows the the Kennebec River on the Kennebec River Rail Trail. The race starts at 7:30 am at the Old Fort Western parking lot, 16 Cony Street, Augusta. There is also a 5K and a Half Mararthon Relay...

Oscar Pistorious, South Africa's "Bladerunner," who competed in London last summer in the Olympics, has my attention. He's taken an unfortunate situation (having two prosthetic legs) and has, against all odds, become a winner to the extent that most of us can only dream of.

Dan Vassallo a Colby grad of Peabody, Mass., won the Maine Marathon in 2 hours, 21 minutes, 12 seconds. It broke the previous record he set in 2007. Robert Gomez of Saco came in second, Moninda Marube of Auburn placed third.
