Wow. Tonight it crossed my mind; not on this day but not too far off that I got my first paycheck in radio 20 years ago. I think because of other things going on in my life at the time, I started professionally probably in March of 1994 but it’s either amazing or crazy that I’ve remained in this profession pretty much non-stop in some capacity for two decades.

I'm not sure if it's just a sign of age and time or if I'm just more sentimental than others but today make me sad in a way. It was 14 years ago I opened the Moose microphone for the first time in my second tour here at 92 Moose. I say second tour because I also worked here part time from the fall of 1996 through the fall of 1997.

This is the time of year for tiger-cub tours. Tonight was the first of I’m sure a few this season. They’re all looking to attain their communication badge on their way to graduation into the next level.

I’ll tell this story again because of the date. It’s also kind of an interesting story of determination. Back on this day, Jan. 29, in 1995 it was a) The Super Bowl and b) a young 22 year old on a bus in search of a dream. I was on my way to an interview the next day, Monday, with a now defunct pop radio station in Brewer.

On this date January 10th back in 1949, the vinyl record was introduced by RCA. Records like you may have seen in your parents’ basements or attics. As I wrote yesterday I only have one LP (33.3 RPM record in my possession). That wasn’t the case way back in my younger days.

It’s that time of year, the time when Tiger Cubs roll through the Moose studios on tours. One of the badges they need to move up is a communication badge. The kids need to tour a radio station, TV station or a newspaper. Today we had Pack 647 from Hallowell come through and see how it works.

What is the furthest or craziest thing you’ve done to get a job? For this story we have to go back to the summer of 1994 when I was 22 years old. In June of 1994 I was hired as a part time DJ at a station in Yarmouth, NS. I wasn’t there very long but long enough to hear the stations in Maine over The Bay of Fundy.

My journey in radio started 20 years ago this month in Saint John, New Brunswick Canada. It was a one year course at The Atlantic Broadcast Centre. Made a lot of friends, drank a lot of Labatt’s and maybe learned a thing or two about radio broadcasting.
