Sesame Street is no stranger to parodying more mature series, even if the children watching have no concept of the show in question. We’d doubt if any kids have even heard of Orange Is the New Black, but there’s an odd charm to its wholesome Orange Is the New Snack makeover.

We’re no where near the middle of outrage from proposed congressional budget cuts, the most visible of which would eliminate funding for staples like the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Sesame Street in particular made headlines switching from PBS funding to HBO, though both it, and Jimmy Kimmel have now placed Big Bird in the spotlight to address the historic cut.

Warner Bros. is developing a feature-length, live-action film based on the venerable children’s educational series. Sure, it’s an easy mark for a typical nostalgia cash-in, but it’s also hard to complain about a Sesame Street movie given everything that the series stands for — and in the wake of our recent election, we could probably use a few sunny days.

Star Wars is everywhere right now, with the impending release of the newest installment in the saga, "Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens." But we want to take you back to another time when "Star Wars" gripped the country, leading to some truly bizarre appearances, like the time when C3PO and R2D2 sung with Big Bird on "Sesame Street"!

At some point, we’re not sure when, Sesame Street stopped being a low-key educational children’s program and started being an educational children’s program that finds time to create internet-friendly parodies of whatever pop culture event is huge in a given week. So yeah, of course the show has made an Avengers-themed sketch and of course it’s called The Aveggies: Age of Bon Bon and of course it recasts Cookie Monster as the Hulk.

At some point in the SNL writer’s room, everyone must have realized that guest host Taraji P. Henson plays a monstrous character named Cookie on the smash hit Empire and, a few Cookie Monster jokes later, they were scrambling to call the producers of Sesame Street. Yes, SNL put Henson’s Cookie on the world’s most famous children’s program and the results are kind of spectacular.

Because there is nothing small children still learning to read love more than ultra-violent fantasy epics, Sesame Street has created a Game of Thrones parody. And we’re not talking about a simple excuse to dress up some Muppets in medieval garb. There are some serious George R.R. Martin deep cuts in this strange little sketch, which marks the first and probably last time that Sesame Street will obliquely reference brutal massacres, beheadings, and regicide.

Sesame Street's audience might be a little young for the Game of Thrones demographic, but that didn't stop them from spoofing the HBO show in a segment titled "Game of Chairs."

Macklemore and the Grouches on Sesame Street are looking for the yuckiest, muckiest, grimiest trash that they could find. Of course, they're singing about it! They're doing some, what else? Some 'Thrift Shopping!'

We've seen 'Sesame Street' take on the likes of such TV-MA fare as 'Sons of Anarchy,' 'Boardwalk Empire' and 'Homeland,' but can it master deductions when it comes to 'Sherlock'?
