Classes at T.C. Hamlin School in Randolph were canceled for the day when, just after 7 this morning, a standoff began on Second Street, just 100 yards away.
Auburn Police say this afternoon (Jan. 11) around 1pm, a man called saying he was suicidal. Police were able to get the man, at a home near Chickadee Drive, to exit peacefully.
State police and Kennebec County sheriffs were called to the Barton Road in Windsor last night (Jan. 9) when relatives of Wayne Bland said he was suicidal after taking a number of pills.
There was an armed standoff last night at the Morning Star Motel in Lewiston last night. The police had blocked off a section of Lisbon Road near the motel and surrounded the building with guns drawn. Lewiston police were joined by the Maine State Police Tactical Team to assist in the operation.
Luckily, earlier today we weren’t grocery shopping. The story has a peaceful ending but I’m sure during the standoff it was a harrowing 4.5 hours.
