You’ll Love The Creative Way This Maine Family Saves On Gas

For more than a year, we have seen the price of gas (and everything else) creep up and up.  We went from paying less than $2.00 per gallon at the beginning of the pandemic, to more than $5.00 in the spring of 2022.

With the exception of the really well-to-do, nearly all of us have made changes to the way we live in order to save money.  Some people started walking or biking more, some people limited the amount of times they went to the grocery store, and some people cut back on food in order to save money (so they could spend it on gas).

Unfortunately, for many people living in rural Maine, driving significant distances is a necessity.

One family in Jay has found a very "Maine" way of dealing with the high price of gas.

According to WMTW, the Duffy family has taken to using 4 wheeler ATVs in order to save on the amount of gas they use.

Patrick Duffy says his family saves about $100 per month by using their ATVs to run errands to to go to work.

The article quoted him as saying:

I'm running only a 1-cylinder engine in this versus the four cylinders in my car, so instead of 35 miles a gallon I'll get over 70 miles a gallon

While this may be an option for the Duffy family, keep in mind that many towns and cities do not allow ATVs on main streets and roads.  Check out more ATV laws HERE  And, of course, always wear a helmet and be safe.
