13-Year-Old Maine Boy Crashes Electric Scooter Into Pickup Truck
A 13-year-old boy riding an electric scooter was involved in a crash with a pickup truck in Bath on Tuesday morning, according to WGME 13.
Authorities say the incident occurred around 7:25 a.m. when the boy was on his way to school. He crossed Congress Avenue from Lincoln Street and collided with the side of a pickup truck that was already in the intersection.
Witnesses told police that the boy did not stop at the intersection before crossing. Police also noted that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Despite the impact, the boy did not appear to have any serious injuries. He was taken to a local hospital as a precaution and evaluated by medical staff, the news station reported.
Police used the incident as a reminder that children under the age of 16 are required by law to wear helmets while riding bicycles, scooters, or other motorized devices. They are also required to follow the same traffic laws as motorists, including stopping at intersections and yielding the right-of-way.
“Parents should make sure their children understand traffic rules and the importance of wearing helmets,” said police officials. “Even short trips to school can be dangerous if safety precautions aren’t followed.”
WGME said the crash is under investigation, but emphasized that it highlights the need for both young riders and drivers to stay alert, especially during busy morning hours.
