20-Year-Old Maine Man Killed in Benton Crash Over The Weekend
Police are investigating the circumstances that led to a fatal crash in Benton, Maine over the weekend.
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety Spokeswoman, Shannon Moss, the crash happened on Interstate 95 on Sunday afternoon at about 4:17 pm.
Police say the crash happened in the northbound lanes of I95 near the 134 mile marker. Moss went on to explain that area crews responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash that appeared to have happened on the side of the road.
When police arrived, they found the single-occupant of the vehicle, Isaiah Mathieu, 20 of Clinton, deceased. While the investigation remains ongoing, police do say that failure to negotiate a curve along with excessive speed do appear to be initial factors in the deadly crash.
The vehicle involved in the crash was a 2004 Chevy Trax and left the roadway before entering a ditch and coming to rest near the tree line on the side of the highway. It was the only vehicle involved in the Sunday afternoon wreck.
The crash remains under investigation at this time. Moss went on to report that Maine State Troopers were assisted on the scene by additional crews from MaineDOT, Clinton Fire Department, and Blanchard’s Towing.
