Was I on a Hidden Camera TV Show at This Portland, Maine Bar?
Have you ever been involved in a series of events that makes you wonder if you're actually on an episode of Impractical Jokers? Or, for you older folks, the show Candid Camera?
Well, that's exactly what happened to me over the weekend at a Portland, Maine bar. And as crazy as this story might seem, I actually was NOT on a tv show- it was, in fact, real life.
Let me set the stage for you fine people. Saturday night was the annual Taco & Tequila Bar Crawl with the people from Bar Crawl USA. We went down to the Old Port for the weekend with our group of friends.
We started our night grabbing a couple cocktails at Foreplay before eventually making our way down to The Porthole. We had another round of cold beverages and boogied on down to the live music they had.
After that, we took a stroll over to one of my favorite night spots in the Old Port, Bonfire Country Bar. As usual, the place was filled with loud tunes, sports on TV and plenty of cold drinks to be had.
Our group headed up to the bar and got our first round of drinks. I took a seat in a barstool while my wife stood in front of me leaning on my lap. About 15 minutes later one of the staff members from Bonfire came over to me and shouted above the loud music telling me that he needed the stool I was sitting on.
I thought he was just kidding but he assured me that he wasn't. So up I stood as this guy grabbed my stool and proceeded to walk away out of sight with it. Sure, that was a little strange but it's okay, there are plenty of 'standing' tables to gather around.
Our group proceeded over to a table that was attached to the wall, set our drinks down and have ourselves a lean. Well, here's where it gets even wilder. About 20 minutes later that same guy came over and told us we needed to move because he needed to put the table down.
He proceeded to unhook the table from the wall and fold it down, kind of like our old cafeteria tables in elementary school, only without the handy benches. It was at this moment that I started looking around for a camera crew.
However, there was no TV production to be found. We actually learned that after about 9pm, the staff get rid of all the chairs and tables so that there's more room for cutting a rug, errrr, dancing.
So while I wasn't filmed for national TV, it ended up being a pretty funny story to tell after the fact. And, if you ever find yourself in Maine's Old Port, make a stop at Bonfire Country Bar, it really is a blast!
