
Here Are 10 Food Shortages & Price Hikes That Could Affect Maine, New Hampshire & Massachusetts
When it comes to the cost of living, one this is for sure- it is much more expensive now than it was just a few short years ago. As a matter of fact, I remember during COVID paying like $1.99 for diesel at one point. That's wild. It's also because no one was driving anywhere so the supply far outweighed the demand at the time.
Why have grocery prices been going up consistently?
There are several factors that cause grocery prices to fluctuate, or like has been the case in the US recently, consistently increase. Of course the number one thing that will always determine the prices you pay at the store is fuel. No matter what you buy, it all got there on a truck- a truck that likely burns expensive diesel fuel.

Other things that can be impactful are wars going on in parts of the world that are big on exports, economic inflation, supply and demand and, last but not least, product recalls. These are just a small part of the much larger picture of product price fluctuation.
Is there any sign that this may ease in the near future?
As of right now, not really. However, according to the newly installed Trump administration, their commitment to 'drill baby drill', could have a direct impact on reducing US energy costs. However, we are, at best, a couple years out from seeing an impact from the drilling.

Unfortunately in the meantime, the volatility of grocery prices will continue to be there as we walk into our favorite grocers. Experts are now predicting items that they believe will be in short supply and/or more expensive as we head through 2025.
