According to state statues, it's legal.

Here's how its written on MaineLegislature.org:

"Permissible open burning without permit. When not prohibited by state rule, local ordinance or water utility regulation, the following types of burning are permissible without a permit if no nuisance is created:

A. Recreational campfires kindled when the ground is covered by snow or on frozen bodies of water."

You also need to burn your fire on something, like a barrel cover or portable fire pit. In addition, all the debris from the fire needs to be completely cleaned up. If not, you can be fined for littering.

In other Maine fishing related news, wildlife officials announced an annual weekend of free fishing. According to Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, February 18-19 anyone can fish Maine waters without having to purchase a license.

Stay safe, and happy fishing.
