Best friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have acted together in a number of movies over the years, most famously in "Good Will Hunting" and now once again with their new Netflix action thriller "The Rip."

The two are pretty synonymous with New England, especially Massachusetts, even acting in Boston-based films like "The Town" and "The Departed."

But you might be surprised to know that of the 14 films the two have starred in together, only two of those actually take place in the Bay State.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Movies That Take Place in Massachusetts

Back when Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were in their early 20s, the pair were part of the prep school drama film, "School Ties," alongside Brendan Fraser and Chris O'Donnell.

This movie took place at the exclusive yet fictional prep school St. Matthew's Academy in Massachusetts in the 1950s.

And while shooting locations are often not the same spot as where the movie actually takes place, "School Ties" did film many scenes in Massachusetts.

The AFI Catalog of Feature Films even lists the multiple towns where the movie was shot, including Concord, Worcester, and Lowell.

As for the other Massachusetts-based film? You probably already guessed it, but it is, in fact, "Good Will Hunting."

Not only did the two star in the movie together, but they also wrote the screenplay together. That screenplay happened to win them an Academy Award in 1998 and really helped launch their careers toward superstardom.

"Good Will Hunting," the drama about a wicked smaht but troubled janitor at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, also had many of its scenes shot in the Bay State.

You can even check out a list of them from the website Movie Locations, if you want to see some of the spots in real life. How bout them apples?

For two actors with such big ties to Massachusetts, it almost seems surprising that they haven't done more films that take place in the state.

Their newest film on Netflix, "The Rip," actually takes place in Miami, Florida, so you won't be catching them dropping the "r" when they take down the bad guys. Or are they the bad guys?

I'm sure we'll see them back in Boston again for a future film.

Take a look at the 14 films the two have starred in together over the years.
