People of Earth, I would like to call your attention to Exhibit B in today’s case for recognizing Jeff Goldblum as a national treasure (or…monument? Can we do that?): While discussing his role as the eccentric Goldblum-esque Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok, the actor revealed, in his typical quirky-casual fashion, that he’s developed his very own Jeff Goldblum ranking system — and he’s graciously given director Taika Waititi the highest-possible rating.

In addition to teasing his “saucy, sassy” return in Jurassic World 2, Goldblum spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his role in Thor: Ragnarok, in which his character lords over a planet where he pits powerful beings against one another in gladiator-style death-matches — you know, for fun. Goldblum reveals that he’s a fan of Taika Waititi (aren’t we all) and that the director had him improvise quite a bit for his scenes in Ragnarok, which is all charming and lovely and interesting, sure, but the best part comes at the very end of the quote:

What I particularly loved is the director, Taika Waititi. He really got me involved in this because I’m a fan of his, from Flight of the Conchords and all his movies, not only Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Boy but especially What We Do In the Shadows. When we first talked, he said, “I want you to do your particular version of this character without being comic-y or grandiloquent. I think you should do something that’s in your creative family tree. And also improvise.” He was very interested in improvisation. We came to all those scenes and riffed enjoyably for the time we had. I don’t know what’s gonna come out in the mix because we gave him a whole bunch of different choices, I’ll tell you that. He’s great. Taika Waititi gets 10 Goldblums out of a possible 10 Goldblums.

10 GOLDBLUMS OUT OF A POSSIBLE 10 GOLDBLUMS. Not only does Jeff Goldblum have a personal ranking system, but he uses his own name to determine and assign value to people (and presumably other nouns, like places and things). I mean, I feel like it would be an honor to earn just one Goldblum out of a possible 10 Goldblums — that’s still pretty special, since a Jeff Goldblum, singular, is more valuable than pretty much 98 percent of the Earth’s population.
