John Mayer is admitting what a lot of people thought after his 2010 Playboy interview: He was a jerk. Mayer was interviewed for CBS Sunday Morning, which will air the chat on Feb. 10 at 9AM ET. The singer discusses how he's matured since the days when he gave thoughtless interviews about his former girlfriends, such as Jessica Simpson, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Aniston.

"I was just a jerk," Mayer says when asked about that period. He received heavy criticism at the time when he used a racial slur in Playboy and called Simpson "sexual napalm."

Oddly, Mayer says that his ill-advised comments were part of attempt to get people to like him. “It’s very liberating when you finally realize it’s impossible to make everyone like you,” he says. “I wanted everybody to like me. I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction.”

Mayer says that he has grown and become a better man, something he also told Ellen DeGeneres last year. That's good news for his current flame, Katy Perry. Mayer seems to have learned his lesson. In a recent interview, when asked about Perry, all he would say was, "I'm quite happy."

The piece features footage from Mayer's secluded Montana home and additional conversation about Mayer's most recent album, 'Born and Raised.'
