By now, unless you live under a rock, you've heard about the dangerous heat wave that is headed for Maine later this week. As a matter of fact, even if you DO live under a rock, we're pretty sure you've heard about it at this point.

According to WGME 13, Monday of this week will be the last day for the next several that you won't be sweating through your clothes. Monday will be fairly mild and mostly cloudy, but on Tuesday everything is going to change.

The heat moves in on Tuesday and it will be much warmer than Monday. Tuesday on the coast will peak at about 85 degrees, but as you head inland, parts of Maine will see temps into the low to mid 90s.

Wednesday will be even warmer (hotter) with coastal temperatures at around 91 and inland highs coming close to 100 degrees. This is really where those heat warnings need to be followed.

The heat index, which is like the heat version of a 'wind chill' is going to be really high as well. There are parts of Maine that will feel like 107 degrees or more on Wednesday and Thursday,

One of the biggest things to be aware of, especially if you work or are planning on being outside for any amount of time this week, is heat stroke. We've put together a list of heat stroke symptoms from the Centers For Disease Control.

  • High body temperature (103°F or higher)
  • Hot, red, dry, or damp skin.
  • Fast, strong pulse.
  • Headache.
  • Dizziness.
  • Nausea.
  • Confusion.
  • Losing consciousness (passing out)

So this is a good week to stay inside, crank up the AC, pull the blinds and leave the yardwork for the weekend when temps will become much more seasonable.

Stay safe!
