One Maine doctor is sounding the alarm on what she believes could be the worst seasonal allergy season the state has ever seen.

According to an article published by WGME 13, the early-season warm temperatures have Maine residents already flocking to their doctors in search of help with springtime allergies.

Even though March 19 is the first day of spring, it appears as though many Mainers have been struggling with increased allergies for weeks now.

Dr. Chelsea Michaud, with Allergy & Asthma Associates of Maine, told WGME that one of the biggest issues is that many people tend to "fall behind" with treating their allergies. Basically, people wait until they're already experiencing symptoms to begin treatment.

That makes it harder to tackle the problem.

Dr. Michaud told WGME that if you're someone who historically suffers from seasonal allergies, you should begin prepping now. She said it can be as simple as checking the pollen count for the day and making sure the windows in your home stay closed, and windows in your car stay up.

In addition, if you have spent time outside on a day where there is lots of pollen, you should consider changing your clothes when you decide to head back indoors, according to the news station.

She went on to tell WGME that even though this could be a record year for allergy season in Maine, it's a trend she expects is likely continue in the coming years ahead.

So whether it's grass, pollen or any other combination of springtime allergens, you may want to consider starting your springtime allergy-prevention routine now.
