Get ready, Maine! It's going to get colder than a witch's bosom. A sharp Arctic front rolls through bringing snow showers, on-and-off snow squalls, and brutally cold wind chills.

According to WGME 13, temperatures today hover in the 30s, but it will feel like the 20s thanks to the wind. Not every town will see snow, but areas near the international border get the squalls first, pushing toward the coast and major highways by lunchtime.

The news station says that inside any squall you can expect:

  • A burst of heavy snow

  • Rapidly changing visibility

  • Strong winds

If you get caught in one, lights on, slow down, and ease off the brakes—don’t slam them.

Winds crank up this afternoon and evening, shifting from the west to northwest, with gusts 30 to 40 mph. Air temps drop into the teens, and wind chills slide into the negatives for most of Maine overnight.

Friday brings brighter skies and lighter winds, but still plenty of cold. By sunrise, wind chills are in the negative double digits, and many of us struggle to climb out of the low 20s during the day.

Clouds return Saturday with a few flurries or light snow showers, but little to no accumulation expected.

And heads up, more cold is locked in for early next week.
