Another Major Winter Storm For Maine & New Hampshire Next Weekend? Models Say Maybe So
Just when you thought winter might give us a breather… yeah, no such luck.
As this current storm is still doing its thing, we’re already looking ahead to January 31 through February 2, where the phrase “Bomb Cyclone” is starting to pop up in forecast discussions.
According to freelance weatherman the New England Weather Guy, right now, we’re in the exact same spot we were last week with this storm: just outside the five-day window. That means we’re officially in the hurry up and wait phase, watching the forecast models like hawks and trying not to read too much into every single update.
He explains that some of the forecast models are suggesting this system could develop into a Bomb Cyclone which is basically the winter version of a hurricane. Things like strong winds, heavy snow, blizzard conditions and the potential for power outages. If it comes together the right way, it would be a big storm.
However, there are some things that are currently unknown about this storm and that includes the most important part: the track.
And until we know where this thing actually goes, we don’t know what — if any — impacts it could have on New England.
There’s a lot of chatter about this potential storm, and honestly, that’s fair. But realistically, according to the weather guy, we need to let this one breathe for a couple more days before jumping to conclusions. The next round or two of model runs will tell us a lot more about whether this is something we need to seriously prepare for — or just keep on the radar.
Bottom line: eyes open, panic button untouched. We’ll keep watching it and update as things come into focus.
Winter isn’t done with us yet… but it hasn’t made its final move either.
