Maine Man Charged After Home Invasion, Scooter Crash Into Police Cruiser
A Falmouth man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he kicked in the door of a Portland home, assaulted a resident with a gun, and later crashed an electric scooter into a police cruiser while trying to flee.
According to WGME Portland police responded to a reported disturbance at a home on Munjoy South Street around 1 p.m. Sunday. Officers say they learned that a man had forced his way into the residence, threatened a person inside with a firearm, and struck the resident with the weapon before fleeing the scene.
Police later spotted the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Devon Dwyer of Falmouth, riding an electric scooter near Silver Street around 3:40 p.m. Officers say Dwyer refused to stop and ultimately crashed the scooter into a police cruiser at the intersection of Spring and High streets, the news station reported.
Dwyer was taken into custody and charged with assault, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, burglary, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, criminal mischief, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs, and violating conditions of release, according to WGME.
At the time of his arrest, police say Dwyer was wearing ballistic plates under his clothing and was carrying a handgun and a knife. Officers also say he was found in possession of drugs, including approximately 91 grams of fentanyl.
Dwyer was transported to Maine Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries before being booked into the Cumberland County Jail.
