Maine School Apologizes After Dirt Accidentally Served at Community Supper
A community supper in Waldoboro took a strange turn last week after a dish of baked dirt was accidentally served to students.
According to WGME, Medomak Valley High School officials say the mix-up happened during the school’s Empty Bowl Supper last Wednesday night.
In a statement, the school explained that the “dish” was actually part of a science experiment. Students had baked dirt as part of a project to test how plants would grow afterward. Somehow, that baked soil was mistaken for a dessert and ended up being served at the event.
School officials say three students briefly put some of it in their mouths before realizing something was very wrong.
The school apologized for the incident and made it clear that this was not a prank.
“This was completely an accidental situation and absolutely not a prank,” the school said in its statement.
Thankfully, it does not sound like anyone was seriously hurt. Still, it is definitely one of those only-in-Maine school stories that people will be talking about for a while.
And let’s be honest, school cafeteria food has taken plenty of unfair jokes over the years, but this one may have accidentally set a new bar.
