More than 500 showed up yesterday (June 14) to the Gentile Building at the University of Maine at Presque Isle to find out if they received a moose hunting permit. According to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, the number of total moose permits given out this year was 3,095, with no more than 10 percent going to non-residents. It was the fewest allocated since 2009 and a 25 percent drop in the number of permits given last year.
