18-Year-Old Central Maine Woman Dies in Weekend Motorcycle Crash
It has been a rough year for motorcycle crashes in the State of Maine. It seems like every week we are reporting on at least one, sometimes more deaths that have happened involving motorcycles and other vehicles on the road.
According to an article published by WGME 13, a young woman from Central Maine was killed on Friday in a motorcycle crash.
The news station goes on to explain that on Friday, a motorcycle vs car crash happened in the town of Rome, Maine which resulted in the death of the rider.
WGME says that the crash happened at around one in the afternoon on the Watson Pond Road in Rome. Officials say that's when the motorcycle, ridden by 18-year-Old Sophia Hayes, of Benton, Maine, collided with another vehicle on the roadway.
First responders rushed to the scene on Watson Pond Road and immediately began rendering life-saving aid to Hayes. She was promptly transported from the scene of the crash to Central Maine Medical Center for further treatment, however, she passed away from the extent of her injuries.
While the crash remains under investigation by local authorities, there was no information immediately available on the type of car, or who the driver was, in the Friday accident.
WGME does go on to report that as of Monday morning there were no pending charges against anyone involved in the crash.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sophia's friends and family during this incredibly difficult time.
We will keep this story updated as more information becomes available to us following the investigation.
