Police Search Woods for Maine Man After Alleged Domestic Knife Threat
A South Berwick man is facing charges after police say he threatened a family member with a knife and then fled into the woods, leading to an hours-long search Tuesday night, WGME 13 said.
According to South Berwick Police, officers responded to a domestic incident at a home on Warren Pond Road around 10:30 p.m. When they arrived, officers learned that 30-year-old Robert Hundley of South Berwick had allegedly threatened a family member with a knife before leaving the home and running into nearby woods.
Police say Hundley was believed to have gone to a nearby hunting cabin in the wooded area. Officers attempted to communicate with him and convince him to come out and speak, but authorities say he refused to cooperate.
Due to the circumstances, South Berwick Police requested assistance from the Southern Maine Special Response Team. Multiple officers then began searching the wooded area in an effort to safely locate and take Hundley into custody, WGME 13 reported.
After several hours of searching, police say Hundley was eventually located in the woods and taken into custody without further incident. Authorities did not report any injuries related to the incident.
Hundley was charged with criminal threatening and violating conditions of release. Following his arrest, he was transported to the York County Jail.
Police have not released additional details about the domestic incident.
