A Bingham food pantry is closing. After helping the community for more than three decades, it looks like they will have to close their doors at St. Peter Church on Aug. 31. They have been unable to find a new location.

The pantry has been feeding the area's hungry from the church rectory, on Owens Street, for 33 years. The church, however, is selling the building, because the lone nun who lives there retired.

Louise Carl, who founded the pantry in 1981, told the Kennebec Journal that their food pantry is the only one in Somerset County that delivers food and most of those who seek help are elderly and disabled that live in rural areas.
