Breaking Bad‘ star Bryan Cranston already has his next gig lined up with a return to ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ while Aaron Paul tears up the cinematic roadways in the ‘Need for Speed‘ movie, so what’s series creator Vince Gilligan up to? How about producing a new detective drama for CBS titled ‘Battle Creek,’ recently given a straight-to-series order based on Gilligan’s decade-old script?

Via The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has given a series order for the Vince Gilligan drama kept in its possession since 2002, tasking ‘House‘ creator David Shore to run ‘Battle Creek’ while Gilligan takes up executive producing duties, and likely the occasional directing. Initially set for 13 episodes, ‘Battle Creek’ follows two detectives with different world views, one cynical and the other naive, as they team up to “clean up the semi-mean streets” of Battle Creek, Michigan.

If nothing else, Gilligan and Shore will at least update the script for ‘Battle Creek,’ which had initially been passed on back in 2002. Elsewhere, the Emmy-winning Gilligan remains in demand for future feature work, while Gilligan’s potential involvement in ‘Breaking Bad’ prequel spinoff ‘Better Call Saul‘ has yet to be determined.

What say you? Would you be interested to watch CBS’ new 2014 drama ‘Battle Creek,’ if only for its association with ‘Breaking Bad’ creator Vince Gilligan?
