According to the KJ, photographer Ben McCanna stumbled into a story when he stopped at a Portland McDonald's for a quick dinner.

A duckling, followed by his brothers and sisters, had slipped through a nearby storm drain. McCanna teamed up with the manager of the McDonald’s to pull of a rescue mission.  They pulled grate off the drain and used McCanna's monopod and a box to rescue half the ducklings.  Three others were rescued by the manager.  Two, unfortunately, did not make it.
