Christina Aguilera’s ‘Fat Girl’ Comments Were Fabricated

Christina Aguilera‘s body is a hot topic, and we’re not just talking about her sexy new single ‘Your Body.’ Turns out some quotes about her weight from her Billboard cover story were fabricated. They weren’t even featured in Billboard’s story! Confused? Let us explain: 

Us Weekly reported on things Aguilera said in the Billboard piece, saying she spoke about feeling fatigued by her label’s pressure to remain thin when all she wanted to do was embrace her Latin roots in the eats-its-young music business. But these statements did not appear in the online or print version posted by Billboard itself, and that’s because Xtina never said them.

Her rep issued a statement, saying, “She never said them.”

The quotes in question are below.

“I got tired of being a skinny, white girl. I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl. The next time my label saw me, I was heavier, darker and full of piercings!… Let me tell you, that wasn’t an easy pill for them to swallow. I had gained about 15 pounds during promotion and during my Stripped tour They called this serious emergency meeting about how there was a lot of backlash about my weight. Basically, they told me I would effect [sic] a lot of people if I gained weight — the production, musical directors. [They claimed] people I toured with would also miss out if I gained weight because I would sell no records or tickets for my shows. I was young, so I lost the weight quickly and was toothpick thin during ‘Back to Basics’ promos and touring.”

It continues:

“I told them [when Xtina settled in to record ‘Lotus,’] ‘You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it.’ They need a reminder sometimes that I don’t belong to them. It’s my body.”

So basically, this false story made it appear that the label told the singer that other people’s livelihoods were dependent upon her size. While we thought that Xtina was on the verge of joining Lady Gaga’s Body Revolution, since the Mother Monster has gone through the same thing and was reportedly told to trim down by her label, we learned the quotes were completely fabricated.

Tsk tsk.
