Goodbye Time Warner, Hello Charter Communications [Video]
Although it hasn't been approved by the Federal Communications Commission, it likely will. Charter Communications will buy Time Warner Cable for more than $55 billion and the smaller Bright House Networks for over $10 billion.
What does this mean to us? It means we'll be served by the country's second largest cable company with 24 million subscribers (Comcast is #1 with 27 million).
It means that we'll be serviced by a company whose focus is more on broadband internet and streaming and less on pay television.
Initially, there won't be a noticeable change but, going forward, we may see big changes in the speed of our internet connections (meaning faster) and in how we pay for services. We will also see a move toward more streaming options.
Comcast, the nations largest cable provider, recently lost a bid to buy Time Warner.
