Justin Bieber had a busy weekend. Not only did he manage to meet and pose with a beautiful tiger, but he upset PETA in the process and rid the world of those hideous dreadlocks he misguidedly sported for far too long. Just as one controversy ends (the dreads) so another begins (the tiger). This truly encapsulates the cycle of Bieber’s life in the public eye.

First, his hair. Bieber shaved several selfies (the first of which is above) to Instagram without commentary, confirming that yes, those dreaded dreadlocks are dead and gone.

Then, a mere day later, the “Sorry” singer was reportedly back in his homeland of Canada to celebrate his father’s engagement to girlfriend Chelsey Rebelo. Naturally, there was a tiger (reportedly supplied by the Bowmanville Zoo) at said party that Bieber — looking a bit trepidatious — lightly pet or at least quickly touched, keeping the majestic beast at arm’s length all the while. And because everything we do as humans is pointless without photo proof, Bieber posted their encounter to Instagram, again sans caption. The picture really speaks for itself, you know?

Animal rights organization PETA was having absolutely none of it, however, and implored Bieber to never do it again.

"Exotic animals used for entertainment are usually torn away from their mothers at a young age, beaten into submission by trainers, and forced to live in cramped enclosures. They may even be fed sedatives so that they’re docile during events and parties like the one Justin attended," PETA wrote in a statement on its website, before explaining how lucky Bieber was to have escaped with all his limbs intact.

"Tigers used in this way are denied everything that they need to be happy, and we can only imagine that the tiger Justin posed with has experienced a life of misery. Justin and other guests are lucky that they weren’t attacked by the wild animals. In similar situations, animals have been known to lash out because of the stress of their miserable lives," the statement continued. "We’re calling on Justin and his family never to use animals as selfie props or party entertainment again."

Justin has yet to respond to PETA, but he hasn't taken down his photo with the tiger either. He is instead enjoying his private jet. Read PETA's full statement over at their official website.
