Cool new program!  It is call the Reach & Rise Mentoring Program at Boys and Girls Club and YMCA of Greater Waterville at the Alfond Youth Center! It is kinda like Big Brothers/Big Sisters!  In fact BB/BS has helped in the creation of the program.  Hey, it is all about helping the kids!  Denise Gianini is the Reach & Ride Program Director and I had a chance to talk with her about the program.  Check it out!

New Mentoring Program in Waterville Looking for Adult Mentors [Audio]

Denise Gianini is a sweetheart and she wants nothing but the best for the youth of central Maine. She talked with us this morning about a new program being run out of the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville. The initiative, called Reach and Rise, is very similar to Big Brothers/Big Sisters and, in fact, works with the group as it sets up mentors with local youth.

Central Maine Has Lost a Hero

Have you ever meet one of those people that you stand back and sort of marvel at their energy and caring? Eva Grover was one of those women for me.  I met Eva years ago here at 92 Moose. One of my co-workers introduced me to Eva and her work at the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville, feeding children in the Kids Kitchen. Eva, who was a retired nurse, was volunteering at the Alfond Youth Center and the kids were hungry. She saw a need and tried to fill it by bringing in sandwich fixings. But it wasn't enough.
