I don't know all of the answers, nor do I pretend to have the answers. Last Tuesday Auburn residents, like other municipalities' residents, voted on school budgets and other town or city issues. I voted yes for 6.9 school budget increase, which I know would result in a tax increase. The proposed increase was voted down by 60% of the voters. OK, for Auburn it's back to the drawing board.
I've got to hand it to the guy. As an administrator, he clearly leads by example, showing the kids two important things. First and foremost, when you make a promise, you follow through. Secondly, don't take yourself so seriously you alianate those you're trying to lead. Mr. Doiron kept his word and showed the kids he wasn't too good to pay up....even if it meant spending the entire school day on a hot roof!
Senator Roger Katz made his weekly Monday stop to see what listeners think about the new A to F grading system for schools. It's very controversial but, controversy or not, if will help schools improve, maybe it's worth using...
While taking Justin to school this morning he asked me what a draft was. I first thought of the military from the pre-Vietnam era, but no, he was asking about the NFL draft. I told him it was like when you're in gym class and the gym teacher assigns team captains and the captains pick the teams from the class.
OK, maybe I chuckled when I read this, but for whoever is responsible I’m sure there will be punishment of some kind if they’re caught. There was no school today in Lisbon because someone or some people let the air out of the tires on the school buses. There were 23 flattened tires on the 15 school buses.
NOTHING makes me happier than the innocence of children, their honest interpretation of the world around them (and the people in it), their willingness to learn new things and eagerness to share what they know. Suddenly, I want to be a school teacher of pre-K through second grade. It's kind of ironic that, in my career field, I often act the age of those I want to teach. They'd be more my peers than my students. But, I digress.
What a close call today for the buses. Had they been on the roads for just another 5 or 6 hours, they might have had some snow to contend with! Good thing Mother Nature can't pull one over on us Mainers, huh?
Tomorrow elementary kids will be trading Valentine's cards at their schools. My son Justin will be giving out candy with a 'to and from' already labeled on chocolates.

The endless debate continues over what to do with Edward Little High School (E.L.H.S.) in Auburn, Maine. Things will be heated, to be sure, tonight at Auburn City Hall. It’s a debate on whether to renovate or build a new high school for Auburn and it is going on as I post this.
