National Weather Service Would Rather You Not Call This Winter Storm ‘Athena’
Nature straight up does not care that we are nowhere near recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. Winter Storm Athena is on her way to kick us square in the jollies.

November 7, 2012 Believe me, I know Maine has winter weather enthusiasts who can't wait for the big snows to come. I use to be one! Still would be if winters weren't so unpredictable. I used to go snowmobiling every chance I got but then, with thousands of dollars wrapped up in snowmobiles and accessories, the snow just didn't come enough to justify the expense. So now, I'm just another Mainer who tolerates the weather, cheering for spring to come early...
