House chair of the Legislature’s Insurance and Financial Services Committee has submitted legislation to not let insurance companies charge older Mainers higher premiums based solely on their age. According to the KJ, Current Maine law says this can’t be done, but it is not clear if that applies to new consumers.

A Waterville woman was arrested in connection with stabbing Tuesday.  According to the Bangor Daily News police were also investigating a separate attack on the same street where a woman was assaulted by three people allegedly involved in the original confrontation.

A judge has postponed the case of an Augusta man accused of kicking Brewer the puppy on the Kennebec River Rail Trail last year. A deputy district attorney wasn't available for a dispositional conference. A new hearing date hasn't been set.

The average statewide price for heating oil has dropped two cents from last month. The Governor's Energy Office said Wednesday that the average price was $1.91 per gallon. The average price for kerosene dropped one cent to $2.44 per gallon and propane prices decreased by three cents to $2.16.

The Maine PUC has rejected its staff recommendation and approved a plan to utility ratepayers to help pay for expanded natural gas. The panel voted in favor of the proposal ,as long as four other New England states join suit.

An Augusta man convicted in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend is due to be sentenced today. Justin Pillsbury was convicted in March murdering 24-year-old old Jillian Jones in an Augusta apartment.

Portland’s 30-foot-long Love Locks fence where thousands of people have pledged their everlasting love to another with padlocks has been deemed a public safety risk. The Portland Press Herald reports the fence will be removed in the next two weeks but a portion will be displayed in a parking lot.

Former Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is telling delegates at the GOP convention to vote their conscience, but he's not endorsing nominee Donald Trump.
