UPDATED (July 17th at 2:30 PM)

According to WMTW, state police have made a preliminary identification of the woman found deceased in the Water Street (Augusta) apartment.  They say it is likely 54 year old Joan Hadley.  They are awaiting a DNA test to make the final identification.

According to law enforcement, she was not tenant of the apartment, but had been staying there.  Prior to living in Augusta, she lived in Windsor.

Police are looking for the tenant.

According to a report on CentralMaine.com, police are investigating the death of an Augusta woman on July 16.

The report said the unidentified woman was discovered by first responders at an apartment located at 37 Water St. slightly before 10 a.m. Police said the death is being treated as suspicious, though the report added that is typical for all unattended deaths.

The woman's body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner's office in Augusta.
