In a sad update to a story we brought you last week, the body of a man from Waterville that had been missing for several days has been recovered from the banks of the Kennebec River in the town of Winslow, Maine.

According to the Kennebec Journal, the body of 42-year-old, John Lessard, was found and recovered on Saturday morning along the shores of the Kennebec River near Fort Halifax park in Winslow.

At this time, there is no information on what the cause of death was or what caused Lessard to enter the river in the first place. His body was recovered about 200 yards down river from where investigators believe he first entered the water about a week ago, according to the Kennebec Journal.

Lessard's body has been taken to the Office of The Chief Medical Examiner in hopes of determining a cause of death. The KJ reports that the circumstances surrounding Lessard's death remain under investigation at this time.

Several resources were called in to help search for Lessard over the last week including drones, rescue divers, boats and other equipment from area fire departments and the Maine Warden Service.

Our thoughts go out to Lessard's family and friends during this difficult time.

This is a developing story and we will keep it updated if and when any new information is made available to us.
