Wentworth Miller Admits He Attempted Suicide Several Times While Struggling With Sexual Identity [VIDEOS]
Actor Wentworth Miller, best known for his work on ‘Prison Break,’ earned the applause of many when he came out while directly opposing the anti-gay stance by the Russian government.
However, as he explained over the weekend, admitting his own sexuality wasn’t the easiest thing in the world, and he instead struggled with suicide attempts over the years.
Can we have an internet-wide virtual hug to make this better?
Wentworth was speaking at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner in Seattle on Saturday (September 7) when he admitted that he first attempted suicide at the age of 15. He referred to the act, in which he swallowed a bottle of pills, not as a cry for help because “you only cry for help if there is help to cry for.”
He also discussed his difficulties keeping his secret in Hollywood, where all he wanted to do was be a role model for a kid just like he was but having trouble admitting he was gay in order to do it. Or in his own heartbreaking words, “To be the someone else that no one was to me.”
You can watch the videos for pieces of Wentworth’s speech, including his decision to not attend the St. Petersberg International Film Festival for all the right ethical reasons above and below.
