Maine is an incredible state, known for so many wonderful things that make our history and our heritage so special. One of those things, and arguably the most important, is our rich hunting pastime. Mainers are used to getting their first taste at it at a pretty young age. Just like people did hundreds of years ago, Mainers are still proud to head into the woods and return with freshly harvested animals to feed their families with.

According to the Kennebec Journal, this tradition started at six years old for Laurelai Winslow of Damariscotta, Maine. It was at that age that she began going on hunts with her dad for animals of all sorts. But, she was the one that fired the shots. Since she was six years old, Laurelai has harvested five white-tailed deer, about 12 or so turkeys, two amazing Maine black bear and even an Alaskan caribou. I know what you're thinking, you wish you had a list of animals that long, right? Me too.

Well, this year Laurelai has decided that instead of her dad accompanying her on another hunt, she wants to accompany her dad on a trip this year. Their plan was to be in the woods bright and early this past Saturday for opening day of rifle season here in Maine. Still no word on if Laurelai was able to lead her dad to the big one, but given her resume, I'd say it's pretty likely she did!
