The arrest stems from the incident back on May 12th where just before midnight police were called to the concourse in Waterville for reports of gunfire. When police arrived on scene they found a 21-year-old that had a gunshot wound to the leg.

While police were investigating that night, the crowd that was gathering on Silver Street in front of Cancun Mexican Restaurant began to get unruly with each other and several other fights broke out while police were on the scene.

Waterville Police Chief, William Bonney, said in part about the night of the shooting,

“During the investigation several fights broke out in front of the Cancun Restaurant on Silver Street Extension, requiring the Waterville police officers investigating the shooting to request backup from surrounding agencies. Officers from the Fairfield, Oakland, and Winslow police departments responded as well as deputies from the Kennebec Sheriff’s Office and troopers from the Maine State Police.”

Manigat is currently being held at the Kennebec County Jail with no bail. He was also found to be in possession of a stolen handgun at the time of his arrest.

This is a developing story that we will keep updated as more information becomes available to us.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
