9-Year-Old Maine Girl Killed by Falling Tree During Yesterday’s Severe Weather
In a tragic turn of events, a young girl from Maine was killed when a tree came down during a severe thunderstorm in Standish, Maine on Thursday afternoon.
According to WGME 13, the incident happened at Sebago Lake Family Campground in Standish where a 9-year-old girl and her family were getting ready to depart the campground due to the impending weather.
As the storm was hit the area, that's when the tree came down and landed on the vehicle that the young girl was sitting in. And, because of the intense winds and rain, several other trees in the area came down as well.
Because so many trees had come down, WGME reports that responding emergency crews were unable to drive to the scene. The news story indicates that first responders, as well as family members and others, worked rapidly to try and clear the roadways to the campground using chainsaws, manpower and even the jaws of life.
First responders ended up having to get to the young girl on foot. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Our thoughts, hearts and prayers go out to the young girl's family during this incredibly hard time.
