All 543 Regal Cinemas Temporarily Closing

With nearly all planned major movie releases pushed back to 2021, this news should not shock anyone.  That being said, it is still very sad for those employed by these theaters.

According to Variety, Cineworld has announced that it will close all of it's Regal Cinemas in the United States.

If all really are closing, that would affect the locations in Augusta and Brunswick.

This closure is primarily due to the pushing-back of the release of the latest James Bond movie.�� Most-recently, No Time To Die had been scheduled for a November 20th release.  The new release date is April 2nd of 2021.

With Bond pushed back, that only leaves the latest version of Dune and Wonder Woman 1984 to be released this year.  There is a good chance those movies will be pushed back, as well.

While they have not announced a date for the closure, it could come as early as this week.  This closure affects approximately 28,000 workers in the United States.

In addition to Regal Cinemas in the United States, the company will close the theaters it owns in the United Kingdom and Ireland.  Those closures will cause the layoffs of over 5,000 people.

At this point, it looks like the earliest we could see Regal reopen its theaters would be sometime in the Spring of 2021.
