Investigators Determine Cause of Fire at Ambition Brewing in Wilton
A fire that damaged part of Ambition Brewing in Wilton on Monday has been ruled accidental, according to the Maine Office of State Fire Marshal.
The Wilton Fire Department responded to 285 Main Street on the afternoon of October 5 for a reported structure fire at the brewery. Fire departments from several surrounding communities also responded to provide mutual aid.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames to one of the two buildings occupied by the business. The second building sustained smoke and water damage. No injuries were reported.
The Wilton Fire Department requested assistance from the State Fire Marshal’s Office to determine how the fire started.
Investigators examined the scene and determined the fire originated beneath the rear portion of the building, where renovation work was underway.
According to investigators, the property owner discovered the fire after old flooring had been cut and was being removed.
Officials say combustible organic material had accumulated underneath the building and most likely ignited during the flooring work. The underside of the building is partially exposed to the elements, allowing leaves and other debris to collect beneath the structure over time.
Investigators determined that material had become dry enough to ignite easily.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office ultimately ruled the fire accidental and said it was associated with the renovation work taking place at the time.
No injuries were reported, and officials did not release an estimate of the damage.
