According to a post on the department's Facebook Page, Augusta, Maine, police are seeking the public's help in identifying who may be responsible for a recent hit-and-run incident that occurred at Cony High School.

The department goes on to explain that the alleged incident happened on Friday at about 4:40 p.m. Police say that while there were a number of sporting events taking place at the school, someone was in the parking lot operating a vehicle recklessly.

Augusta police said that as the suspect was leaving the area they lost control of the vehicle they were driving and crashed into a wooden guard rail at the school. This reportedly caused "extensive damage," though instead of stopping, the vehicle quickly fled the scene of the crash.

Police are now seeking the public's help to identify the vehicle and/or the person who may have been involved in causing the damage. Police say they believe the vehicle involved in the crash was a Chevy or GMC pickup from the years 1967 to 1972.

If you, or someone you know, has information on Friday's hit and run, you're asked to contact Officer Webster at the Augusta Police Department at 207-626-2370.
